Fire - Procedures
Avoid: Implement a fire safety program in consultation with local authorities (see NFPA publications). Train staff in fire prevention techniques.
Block: Maintain fire barriers and fire separations. Keep fire doors closed. Limit chaos and debris during exhibit installations.
Detect: Establish whom to call in case of fire alarm. Test fire detection systems as required.
Respond: Activate fire disaster plan. Inform authorities of museum layout and of location of valuable or flammable artifacts. Train staff in use of fire extinguishers. Reconsider all stages.
Recover/Treat: Treat artifacts damaged by fire and smoke.
