Biography: Alastair Fox

Alastair Fox has been a furniture conservator for more than 30 years. Largely self taught, he has worked on a wide variety of projects that include general carpentry, restoring an 18th-century house, rebuilding sailboats, and cabinet and furniture making. A resident of New Brunswick for many years, a large part of his work was for the Provincial Government doing extensive restoration work in the Legislative Assembly, Old Government House, and many historic houses throughout the province. Other highlights include assisting the New Brunswick Museum in their relocation to Market Square, a project in which he was very involved in the Marine Gallery — including concept development, supervising and building exhibits, and working on artifacts. Alastair’s first involvement with CCI was in 1986 as an intern. In 1991–1992 he conducted a furniture survey in all the New Brunswick museums (of which there are more than 60) for CCI, and eventually came to CCI as a furniture conservator in 2002.
