Upon graduation in 1975 from a 3-year museum studies program specializing in conservation, Deborah Stewart joined the conservation lab of the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg, becoming one of the first conservators in central Canada. In 1980 she joined CCI's Mobile Laboratory Program as a conservation intern, visiting museums throughout Canada to advise on preventive conservation and undertake basic conservation treatments. From 1985 to 1988 she served as the conservator for the Mobile Exhibits Program of the National Museums of Canada. Upon termination of the Program she returned to CCI, working in the Ethnology Laboratory. Since 1996 she has worked with Preventive Conservation Services and more recently as a Preservation Advisor with Preservation Services, specializing in emergency preparedness for cultural institutions, and advising small and seasonal museums on seasonal procedures, preservation issues, and collections care.
