Current Unpaid Interns at CCI
Ute Werner

I am a conservation student from the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, in Germany and I started a one-year internship at CCI in May 2009. I first trained as a stone sculptor in Northern Italy and then I worked for several years in the field of mural painting conservation. In 2005, I decided to study metal conservation at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany which deals mainly with the treatment and conservation of monumental artifacts. During this training, I worked as an intern at Amsterdam’s Tropenmuseum and at The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN). I have also taken some courses in archaeological history and research at the HTW (University of Applied Sciences) in Berlin to better understand the preservation field. My primary interests are in preserving metal artifacts, especially composite materials and archaeological objects. I am also interested in preventive conservation and risk management as it relates to the storage and display of all types of artifacts. While at CCI, I will be treating archaeological iron in the archaeology laboratory. I will also be working on a project in the objects laboratory, investigating the best way to remove metal soaps from brass beads on four different leather belts.
