Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program

The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) supports NSERC’s Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program. Our Visiting Fellows are employed in key research or developmental areas where there is a strong match between their skill sets and our needs. Knowing that it is important for Fellows to develop at least one or two publications during their tenure, we ensure that their work has significant novel aspects. More information on our areas of research can be found in Research and Development Projects.

What kind of support does this program provide?
The Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program provides promising emerging scientists with an opportunity to work with research groups or leaders in Canadian government laboratories and research institutions. Fellowships are awarded for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second and third year at the discretion of the government department concerned. The number of awards varies according to the budgets of the participating departments and agencies.

The names of the most meritorious applicants are placed in an inventory of approved candidates for a Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Government Laboratories. NSERC informs applicants whether their names have been placed in the inventory of approved candidates approximately three months after receipt of a completed application.

Note: Placement of an applicant’s name in the inventory does not guarantee a Fellowship; it is a preliminary requirement only.

Individual government departments select their Visiting Fellows from the inventory of approved candidates. Selected individuals are notified by NSERC or by the interested government department.

The names of the approved candidates remain in the inventory for one full year or until they are offered a Fellowship.
